Inside the Transformative CRM Bootcamp
Over 30 operational and safety professionals from Vale’s South American operations gathered at Mina de Fábrica for five days of intensive Critical Risk Management theory and practical application in the field.
The CRM Bootcamp took participants on a journey of understanding what Critical Risk Management is, how it works, and why Vale has introduced the program.
Primarily, CRM Bootcamps empower participants with the confidence to continue using CRM in their organisation once the bootcamp has ended, giving momentum to the CRM deployment.
Interactive exercises focused on role playing, risk identification, and learning the CRM app allow participants the opportunity to practice and hone their skills of leadership in the field before heading out on site to practically apply their new knowledge. All who attend report they appreciate and enjoy the experience.
At the Mina de Fábrica Bootcamp, the Forwood team’s teachings were further enhanced by Vale’s and Deloitte’s presentations on their safety simplification initiatives, change management program to roll out CRM to the operational users, and program governance.
Vale Multipliers
Learning & Applying Critical Risk Management
From day one, the Vale team were immersed in the fundamentals of Forwood’s Critical Risk Management system, learning to identify critical risks and how to mitigate them through effective critical controls.
At its core, best practice Critical Risk Management requires physically verifying that critical controls are in place and effective to eliminate or reduce risk to personnel before work starts. Critical control verifications must be of high quality to ensure controls are working as expected and to identify any gaps. By performing thorough and precise verifications, organisations can identify any gaps or weaknesses in their controls, which might otherwise go unnoticed.
The Forwood team demonstrated how to perform quality verifications, the importance of planning and preparation, and why expertly designed critical control questions are the failsafe method for physically verifying that critical controls are in place and effective.
Putting CRM into practice, the Vale team completed hands-on critical control verifications for top critical risks on site at Mina de Fábrica using the Forwood Critical Risk Management mobile app solution.
Vale’s unwavering commitment to improving safety practices and eliminating fatalities was on show throughout the Bootcamp, aligning with their highest value of Life Matters Most.
The Vale team challenged themselves to go above and beyond in learning effective Critical Risk Management and will use their new-found knowledge to train and empower others across their operations.
